Description
Harlan Coonsis Inlay Blue Bird Ring sz 6.5
This is an exquisite ring, you can’t say that about a lot of jewelry! It’s a size 6 1/2. It was made by Noted Zuni Artist Harlan Coonsis. It features a finely etched Blue Bird ( I don’t what particular kind of bird ) with turquoise, deep black jet, red coral and something green inlaid in shimmery white mother of pearl. A huge amount of work went in to this piece of wearable art and it’s absolutely stunning.
Originally, Harlan Coonsis collaborated with his first wife, Rolanda. He did the silverwork, and she did the stonework. More recently, he has collaborated with his present wife Monica. Harlan learned the art from parents, Juan Coonsis and Lorraine Nastacio. When working by himself and with Rolanda, Harlan signed his work with H. R. COONSIS ZUNI. When working with Monica he has used H. M. COONSIS.
Harlan and Monica have won many awards for their work and can be found in Gregory Schaaf's book, American Indian Jewelry 1,200 Artist Biographies on page 121.
weight: 5.3 grams on my scale.
It's marked Sterling and signed HM Coonis inside the band. It measures
1 1/8” tall by 5/8” at it’s widest point. It has a sturdy split shank band. I placed a quarter there for scale. Sure to make a Fine addition to any collection, or a great gift! Please note: Pictures are enlarged to show detail, remember everything looks bigger on line :)
