Description
Large Turquoise Inlay Pendant By Mary Tafoya
This wonderful pendant/pin was made by noted Santo Domingo Artist Mary L. Tafoya.
It has a mosaic design that actually looks somewhat like an abstract painting. I took a lot of pictures of this piece, below. This unique piece has a great shape with inlays including light green turquoise, reddish apple coral, reddish brown pipestone, white clam shell and something pale yellow. The backing is dark green serpentine. weight: 40 grams on my scale. It's signed MLT and hallmarked. It measures 2 1/4" tall by 1 7/8" at it's widest point.
The double bail is really a hook type bail. I placed a quarter there for scale. I'm so pleased to have met this artist! Picture below. She's a wonderful woman and her art is distinctive, unusual and creative!
Mary Tafoya
Mary Tafoya, born Mary Coriz, is one of 11 children. She learned her jewelry making techniques from her father with influence from her mother. She works from sketches and soon she creates her collector's pieces. Her unique approach in jewelry design is similar to a painter's technique. Mary draws from nature and the earth and she's wonderful at capturing color, motion and form. She's an extraordinary artist.
Sure to make a Fine addition to any collection, or a great gift! Please note: Pictures are enlarged to show detail, remember everything looks bigger on line :)
