Description
Vintage Turquoise Heishi Necklace
This beautiful old Santo Domingo ( Kewa) Pueblo Necklace is from the 1960's - 1970's.
It's about 26 1/2" long with a twist on clasp. There's some old turquoise on this one. The blue to greenish turquoise stones are kind of rough and free from. There's white and brown clam shell heishi between the stones.
The stones range in size from about 3/4" to 1"
Total weight: 30 grams on my scale.
The literal meaning of heishi is "shell" and specifically refers to pieces of shell which have been drilled and ground into beads and then strung into necklaces. more information on this fascinating subject can be found on the internet
