Description

Zuni Snake Fetish

Snake - Symbolizes life, death, rebirth Guardian of the water Believed to have curative powers and is also associated with lightening The Snake is very important in Zuni ceremonies

This Large stunning piece of art was made by Zuni Artist Louis Chavez IV. The reddish brown pipestone is hand carved and etched beautifully. Note the attention to detail including the carved turquoise rattle. I took a lot of photographs of this piece below, it was fun to do!

Pipestone is considered very scared and and is used in carvings, jewelry and the making of peace pipes. There are no cracks - it’s just matrix through the pipestone

Weight: approx 106 grams on my scale.
It’s signed on the bottom Louise Chavez IV Zuni. It measures approx over 3/4” tall by 3” long and is about 3” at it’s widest point. Nice I placed a quarter there for scale.

Sure to make a Fine addition to any collection, or a great gift! Please note: Pictures are enlarged to show detail, remember everything looks bigger on line :)
