These wonderful earrings were made by Santo Domingo Artist Jeanette Calabaza
The turquoise pieces are a sky blue and are accented with fine dark chocolate brown
heishi shell between the stones and near the ear wires.
At the time of this listing I only have 3 pairs of these and they are all virtually the same
same turquoise stones etc.
They hang down about 1 7/8" by about 1 1/8" wide.
total weight: 3.8 grams on my scale
Lightweight and easy to wear
I placed a quarter there for scale.
The literal meaning of heishi is shell and specifically refers to pieces of shell which have been drilled and ground into beads and then strung into necklaces. more information on this fascinating subject can be found on the internet
In 2009, Santo Domingo Pueblo's tribal council decided to change the pueblo's name back
to the ancestral name Kewa Pueblo (pronounced KEE-wah)
