This happy 5 strand necklace is 17" long with an eye and hook closure.
It was made by Santo Domingo (Kewa) Darlene Calabaza. It's very colorful and has fine heishi
including blue turquoise, reddish brown pipestone, black jet and white shell.
The heishi is uniform and about 1/16"
Weight: about 33 grams on my scale
I placed a quarter there for scale.
The literal meaning of heishi is shell and specifically refers to pieces of shell which have been drilled and ground into beads and then strung into necklaces. more information on this fascinating subject can be found on the internet
