Mary Tafoya Mary Tafoya, born Mary Coriz, is one of 11 children. She learned her jewelry making techniques from her father with influence from her mother. She works from sketches and soon she creates her collector's pieces. Her unique approach in jewelry design is similar to a painter's technique. Mary draws from nature and the earth and she's wonderful at capturing color, motion and form. She's an extraordinary artist.
This fabulous piece was made by noted Santo Domingo (Kewa) artist Mary Tafoya.
This unique pendant has a great shape with inlays blue turquoise and bright white shell.
The backing is deep black jet. The attached 19" heishi necklace has blue turquoise, white shell,
black jet and reddish brown pipestone.
It's signed and etched with her Butterfly hallmark.
The pendant is 2 " tall by 3/4" at it's widest point.
Total weight: about 23 grams on my scale.
I placed a quarter there for scale.
I'm so pleased to have met this artist! Picture below. She's a wonderful woman and her art is distinctive, unusual and creative!
